Bay Area Artist Talk | "The Future of Art School" | 120710 Art Collective
This artist panel with artists and art faculty working in San Francisco and the Bay Area have gathered at the 120710 art gallery space for the closing reception of "Dude Where's My School." β an art exhibition curated by Josh Hash that recounts the late generation of artists from the now shuttered San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI). These disenfranchised members of the bay area art scene come together in Berkeley, CA to recount their expereices at art school and contemplate the future of this pedegogical tradition. Given the recent demise and potential reformation of SFAI, 120710 hosted a panel discussion in partnership with Studio Hash on the subject of "the Future of Art School." Panelists include Berkeley artist Rebecca Kaufman, MFA SFAI; Exhibition Curator Josh Hash, BFA SFAI; Professor Kyle Steinfeld, Associate Professor of Architecture and Director of M.Des. at U.C. Berkeley; and San Francisco local artist, John DeFazio, former SFAI faculty. The panel will be moderated by Jonathan Bachrach, Director of 120710.

βDude, Whereβs My Schoolβ is a group show of Alumni & Faculty from the recently shuttered San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI). This group of SFAI artists all hail from the final years of the historic Art Institute. Although its closing may bring forth a myriad of emotions, this body of creative thinkers survives the once-iconic institution. We are thus reminded that, ultimately, artists are the ones who move culture forward and unify communities. The demise of SFAI proves allegorical to a pivotal moment in contemporary art, where βNo Schoolβ artists are tasked with governing their own networks, infrastructure, & legacy.
