Eschetological Rumination, an exhibition curated by Orly Ruaimi, presents artworks by artists Joshua Hashemzadeh, Annetta Kapon, Micke Tong, Chris Wawrinofsky, & Jon Verney. Drawing on notions of nostalgia and the macabre, the imagery here sensationalizes banal interactions within local landscapes in ways that contemplate the preservation of heirlooms, folk objects, & other cultural recordings. The artworks themselves, ranging from found objects, digital prints, and performance, offer an exploration into the cultural linkages that tie us to a place in time. Striking feelings of euphoria and anxiousness, the varying artists articulate their memories through the reimagining of various art historical and interpersonal signifiers.

Within the gallery viewers will find artworks by Joshua Hashemzadeh that recycle discarded vacation letters by reimagining them as ornate time capsules. These postcard inspired Reliquary- Meme paintings are encased in glass, walnut, and resin and stand as keepsakes that capture moments from LA’s diverse and enigmatic legacy. Other works including a cocoon like construction made of wood and glass by artist Chris Wawrinofsky offer playful moments of whimsy as he adorns his work in layers of cotton-candy as part of a live performance. Collectively this assortments of nostalgic imagery and ephemeral materials start to ponder a future that may be anchored in what we has yet to be reconcile in our past.
