love trumps hate
Love Trumps Hate is a series of 13 collaborative drawings from 2016 done by artist, Joshua Hashemzadeh (b.1993) and his, then, seven-year-old sister, Lauren Gallace. Appropriating images from Laurensβs coloring books, Josh digitally breaks the pageβs continuity through linguistic alteration. Pulling quotations from the then president-elect, Donald Trump, Josh creates images that satirically reflect sentiments publicized during Trumpβs initial presidential campaign and highlights their implicit social consequence. Laurenβs use of crayon directs the pieces overall composition while implicating our role in the proliferation of fabled frameworks and their simplistic, often biased, allusions. The uncanny and forebearing imagery stands as political critique and dynamic intersection for each sibling despite them having been reared, and continuing to live, in politically and socially opposed environments.
